Bughouse Square Debates

  • July 26, 2014
  • 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM
  • Washington Square Park, Chicago

Washington Square Park (a.k.a., Bughouse Square), 901 N. Clark St. (across from the Newberry)

Join Rick Kogan and the Newberry Library in demonstrating that Chicago’s long and proud history as a hub of free speech is alive and well! The program will start at noon and will offer a stimulating afternoon of public debate. See this year’s Altgeld Award for Free Speech winner and enjoy music by the Environmental Encroachment Marching Band. Bring your loudest heckling voice, mount the open soapbox, and keep free speech alive and well. Take it to the park this summer!

If you would like to be on the program as part of the friendly competition between soapbox orators for the title “Champion Soapbox Speaker,” please email programs@newberry.org.

The main Bughouse Square Debates page has more more information about the program, and check back soon for updates!

Cost and registration information:

This program is free and open to the public.
