Civil War Family Day

  • June 14, 2014
  • 11:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • The DuSable, Chicago

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the historic 1864 Battle of Nashville which took place during the Civil War. The Battle of Nashville is often recognized as one of history’s most successful campaigns. The Battle is also noted for the significant role played by the United States Colored Troops. After being called upon to lead the initial attack the Colored Units were instrumental in helping to break the will of the Confederacy and ultimately helped to turn the tide of the Civil War in favor of the Union Army.

The DuSable Museum and the Illinois Amistad Commission invites families, educators, and Civil War enthusiasts to join us on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at The DuSable for our second annual “Civil War Family Day.” This history-packed day will be filled with riveting battle re-enactments; engaging historic character re-creations including Frederick Douglass, Harriett Tubman, and President Abraham Lincoln. In addition a special recognition of “Juneteenth” will be observed and exciting family activities and Museum tours are on the schedule.
