Parents of a bright child may notice that their child isn’t on a normal developmental trajectory, because s/he is out of synch with the pediatric development charts or isn’t following the ‘what to expect’ guidelines. While most people understand early speech and early reading, there are other signs of giftedness, such as intensity, empathy, sensitivity, etc.

Do any of these characteristics ring true for your Preschooler or Kindergartener:

  • Innate curiosity and drive to know and write letters, colors, and numbers; or read books before age 4?
  • Demand for attention; constantly talking and asking questions?
  • Interest in or intense awareness of mature subjects (life, death, poverty, crime against others), so much so you don’t watch the news in your house?
  • Lack of respect for authority; always asking why?
  • Tendency to throw crazy tantrums, when unable to do things his/her way?
  • Bossiness, being annoyed when other children don’t follow the rules or understand the game?

Many times these other signs may be overlooked or mislabeled as problems.  Problems that can increase if a child finds him- or herself in an inappropriate learning environment.

Come learn what gifted might look like in a young child and join our discussion.
