Wonder Kids 2013: Celebrate Tinkering and Innovation!
How do you construct your own ball run? Ever built a bridge or created your
own wind turbine? How can you build and test your own submarine? Want to learn
how to design and launch a rocket?
Join Allstate, Chicago Children’s Museum and the Museum of Science and
Industry as we celebrate tinkering and innovation during Wonder Kids,
our annual event encouraging kids to think like scientists and make exciting
discoveries about how the world works.
Visit Chicago Children’s Museum on Saturday, September 28 (11 am – 3
pm) to design, test and build using real tools and materials in
hands-on stations throughout the museum. The best part: admission is FREE for
all visitors!
Families with children of all ages will create, build and tinker through a
variety of fun activities and make-and-takes, including:
- The Launchinator: Calling all budding rocket scientists!
This IS rocket science and you’re the astrophysicist at work. Count down to
launch and then watch as stuff flies high, higher, highest!
- Stomp Rockets: How high can it fly? Design a rocket out of
recycled material, then launch it in CCM’s Great Hall.
- Hover, Sink & Float: How do submarines go up and down?
Build a mini model of a submarine using a film canister. Add different
materials, and see if you can you get your submarine to hover in the middle of
the water.
- Wind Turbines: Design and build your own wind turbine
blades and explore an alternate form of creating electricity.
- Build a Circuit: Can you work together to build different
types of electrical circuits? Create an electrical circuit using a variety of
materials and see how creative you can get!
