The Adler Planetarium is hosting a Civic Hack Day to participate in the nation-wide event, The National Day of Civic Hacking. Taking place on the 1st and 2nd of June, 2013, in major cities throughout the United States, The National Day of Civic Hacking will bring together average citizens, software developers, and entrepreneurs from across the nation to develop solutions to the challenges faced by our local neighborhoods, cities, states and country. They will collaboratively create, build, and invent using publicly-released data, code and technology. The National Day of Civic Hacking will provide citizens an opportunity to do what is most quintessentially American: roll up our sleeves, get involved and work together to improve our society and the place we call home.
You don't need to sit on the sidelines to get involved with the Civic Hack Day. On June 1st, the Adler will host a series of FREE drop-in hacking workshops for young people ages 13 and up. In addition admission to the Adler will be FREE for all Chicago Public School students (with a valid ID). All you have to do to participate is register here and show up on the day before 11am with your ticket. Workshops will include quadcopter programming, mobile app development, LEGO Mindstorms, Snap Circuits hacking, 3D design, lockpicking, and much more! Remember to register here to gain FREE admission (for Chicago Public School students only).
