SENG Model Parent Support Group

You are invited to participate in a guided discussion group to gain increased understanding of the social and emotional needs of bright/gifted/talented children, and the parenting issues related to those needs.  Emphasis is on the positive aspects of parenting, avoiding power struggles, and helping children learn appropriate life skills while enhancing the parent/child relationship.  Topics include:

  • Identifying traits and characteristics of giftedness
  • Understanding motivation, achievement, perfectionism
  • Recognizing, communicating and managing feelings
  • Building relationships:  parents, siblings, peers
  • Discipline:  establishing goals and boundaries
  • Managing stress and identifying early signs of depression

Dates: Every Tuesday starting April 16 through June 11, 2013 (10 sessions)

 

Time: 9:30 to 11:00 am

 

Location:  Des Plaines Public Library

 

Cost:  $200 includes the book, A Parent’s Guide to Gifted Children, by J. Webb, J. Gore, E. Amend and A. Devries. Scottsdale, AZ: Great Potential Press - (Scholarships available)

 

PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED by April 14: Group size limited to 16
