The Great Fossil Hunt Learn how to identify a real fossil and how to create a dig pit grid system to help you remember the location of your fossils. Students practice scientific illustration and make inferences about the origins of fossils. This hands-on class incorporates paleontology with the adventure of a mini-dig...this is one Great Fossil Hunt you won't want your students to miss! Includes a tour of Evolving Planet.

Recommended for grades 3 - 5.

Free Day at the Museum for other family members

Registration required: $5 per child.  Registration open through January 17.
  • Meet at the Group Doors on the East side of the Museum at 9:30am.
  • The group will walk with our kids to the Fossil class. 
  • Parents do not attend the class but are asked to remain and enjoy the Museum during the class. 
  • It is a free day at the Museum. 
  • Parents pick students up at noon from the classroom.

After attending the Great Fossil Hunt, kids may enjoy visiting Dave's Rock Shop in Evanston.  They have a wonderful Illinois fossil collection in the basement that is open to public, as well as fun rocks and fossils in the shop area.
