  • The tag in the back of my shirt is torture.
  • Fidgeting helps me think.
  • I can’t eat anything green and make sure my food doesn’t touch on the plate!
  • I’m still so sad about a dream I had a few weeks ago.

These statements may sound dramatic, but to the gifted child it’s an every day truth.  Being gifted isn’t just about being smart – most experience what are known as overexcitabilities – feeling MORE of everything than other people. If this sounds familiar come and find out what they are, some coping mechanisms (for you and your child or student), and share your experiences with others!

Presenter, Lauren Callaway is the owner/director of Sprout – Enrichment for the Gifted Child, an after school and summer program focusing on socialization and enrichment of Chicago’s gifted children. She also does teacher in-service lectures on identification and differentiation, and advocacy for parents in
the school system. In the past, Lauren taught 3rd grade at a private school in Lincoln Park and for National Louis University’s Center for Gifted. Mother of two girls, one of whom is gifted (the other one just turned 3 – we’ll see about her), life is a constant adventure.
