Parent Conversations: Gifted Parenting and Uniqueness
Parenting gifted children comes with many unusual and frequently unique challenges. We have children who are enthusiastic learners, except perhaps when the subject does not interest them. Our child may have an obsessively sincere interest in Greek mythology, but he is unwilling to complete the history assignment due tomorrow. She may be a skillful mathematician, but refuses to show her work. Or perhaps, your child is learning in an environment that may not be aware of or prepared to meet the needs of gifted learners. How do we support these learners to turn their uniquenesses into possibilities? How do we inform teachers of the needs of gifted learners which differ from other students?
