Parent Conversations:  Gifted Parenting and Uniqueness

Parenting gifted children comes with many unusual and frequently unique challenges.  We have children who are  enthusiastic learners, except perhaps when the subject does not interest them.  Our child may have an obsessively sincere interest in Greek mythology, but he is unwilling to complete the history assignment due tomorrow.   She may be a skillful mathematician, but refuses to show her work.  Or perhaps, your child is learning in an environment that may not be aware of or prepared to meet the needs of gifted learners.  How do we support these learners to turn their uniquenesses into possibilities?   How do we inform teachers of the needs of gifted learners which differ from other students?

"Honoring the Precious Uniqueness of Your Child"  Sage Journals,

"The Wonderful but Weighty Challenges of Gifted Parenting" Thomas Fordham Institute,

"Enabling Our Children" Hoagies Gifted,

We aspire to welcome everyone and address gifted topics that are accessible and relevant to busy parents.  Join us to listen, participate, collect resources, share ideas and create community that supports and understands gifted parenting. Topic suggestions welcome and will change each session, and resources may be provided to inform and fuel the conversation.  It's OK if you don't have time to read, just join us for inspiring conversation with other gifted parents and Katherine Peterson, parent,  CGCC Board Member / Facilitator.   Other CGCC Board Members including Carole Jones, CGCC President, and Aileen Kelleher, LCSW, CGCC Board Member and Professional Member, and Esther Tarkieltaub, Professional Member will join as they are able. Please feel free to reach out to Katherine Peterson, CGCC Board Member & Parent Discussion Facilitator with questions, ideas or to share your comments.
