21st Annual Webster Memorial Lecture

  • March 07, 2019
  • 7:00 PM
  • Adler Planetarium, Chicago

The Adler Planetarium and the Archaeological Institute of America invite you to explore the Universe through the teachings of America’s indigenous people.

Grainger Sky Theater

Featuring Annette S. Lee, Director, St. Cloud State University Planetarium

All people look up at the night sky with awe, excitement, and curiosity, but few realize that the constellations have many names from different cultures throughout human history. The familiar stars of the Northern Hemisphere night skies have important teachings that embody the crucial relationship between the sky above and the Earth below.

Explore indigenous teachings related to constellations of the Ojibwe, D/Lakota, and Ininew people under the stars on the planetarium dome with speaker Annette S. Lee. She will discuss the Native Skywatchers initiative and share revitalization strategies such as “dual-learning” and “two-eyed seeing” that weave together cultural and scientific knowledge, stories, and hands-on activities where neither is dominant over the other and resonance between the two is easily found.

This event is free and open to the public. Spaces are limited, so reserve your tickets today!
