Learning Objective: Painting in Acrylics on a canvas at the same time learning how to design a good composition compared to a bad composition. The relationships between objects and using positive and negative shapes so to arrange that have meaningful placements that create interest for the viewer. You will create simple perspective and depth depending on the piece.

Learning Objective; How to use Acrylic colors and paint effectively.

Learning Objective: Learning hands on with my instruction and examples I create. We will learn how to control acrylic paint keeping it in a workable fashion mixing colors and using complementary colors starting with a simple palette and certain techniques I have developed.

Learning Objective: Drawing on the canvas at the same time considering composition and acceptable arrangements.

Note to parents; please make sure your child is prepared for each class with all supplies on the list. Thank you.

Supplies required:

* several canvases

*Bring a reference photo to the first class, something you want to paint, and something you’re interested in.

Walmart or Michaels. 3 –Canvases stretch or flat boards to start 8 x 12 or a size you prefer, but not bigger than 16 x 20 and you can purchase flat canvas boardsin value packs, very effective for beginners

1_*Paper towels and a water bowl and Wax Paper.

Acrylic Paints Apple Barrel, small 2 FL oz. at Walmart

.50 - $1.00 a piece.

3- White

1- Black

1- Dark blue

1-Light blue

1- Red

1-Orange

2 -Green Mossy and light green

1 -Yellow

1 -Yellow Ochre

1- Brown

Acrylic brushes can be found for a reasonable price at Walmart and large spreading brushes can be bought at any home improvement store

 Buy the (Inexpensive brushes)Check the quality:  make sure they are soft to the touch not rough! 2 large 2x 2.5’ flat spread brush Menards or Home Improvement store.

 1 size 8 with a tip

 1 size 10 flat square. So you can find the brushes anywhere you prefer to shop, the prices should vary, but it should not be too expensive. NOTE*Watercolor students don’t use your brushes for Acrylics (Estimated total  cost $ 35.00)


Mio Brown Street has a degree from The College of Du Page for Commercial Art , Design and Illustration, where shemaintained a 4.0 average grade. She teaches art at the Community College of Lake County, Adlai Stevenson High School, Montessori School and privately.
