Acoustic Bat Monitoring

  • October 15, 2017
  • 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM
  • Edward L. Ryerson Welcome Center, Riverwoods

2017 Ethel Untermyer Forum: Championing Wildlife: Acoustic Bat Monitoring

Our Acoustic Bat Monitoring Program engages non-scientists to collect important data, sometimes called Citizen Science. Adults, join our own, Melissa Alderson to learn how it all works, while kids enjoy a bat program designed just for them. Includes an update on white-nosed syndrome in Midwest bats.

In the past five years, the District's Bat Monitoring program has gathered important data on bat population diversity and density in Lake County. Our data, along with data collected by Lincoln Park Zoo, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Illinois Natural History Survey and the Forest Preserve District of Will County, will be utilized to generate species occurrence maps across the state.

A special kids-only bats program will be offered to children ages 5–12 during the adult presentation.
