Open Design Studio with LEGO®

  • August 19, 2017
  • 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Frederick C. Robie House, Chicago

Offered the 3rd Saturday of every month, except May.

From private homes to skyscrapers and churches, Frank Lloyd Wright brought his visionary imagination to bear on many different types of buildings. Each structure Wright created was a unique response to its environment and function as he pioneered a new vision for American architecture.

Invent your own design solutions while you create with LEGOs in Wright’s Prairie style masterpiece, the Robie House. During this free monthly program, families can work with the Trust’s resources to design and build LEGO models that fit into a natural landscape. All LEGO models are available for purchase based on weight. Only cash and checks are accepted onsite for model purchase. Reservations are strongly encouraged as space is limited.

Join us at 10 am before the Open Design Studio to explore color, texture, shape, and light through the details of Wright’s Robie House on a brief guided tour. Afterward, head into the design studio to design and build a unique version of the detail we have studied for your own LEGO model. Each month, a new Robie House detail will be examined including the masterful art glass windows, beautiful planters, and unique lighting fixtures.
