CGCC Curiosity Hacked Meet & Greet #1

  • August 03, 2017
  • 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Trailside Museum of Natural Hisotry, River Forest

We are gearing up for another season of our popular Curiosity Hacked. Ready to meet old friends, meet our leader, or just wondering if Curiosity Hacked would something of interest for your children? If so, bring your children to one (or both!) of our August Meet & Greet events. Our second Meet & Greet is on August 12.

For the first event, we will meet at the Trailside Museum of Natural History at their "Bats - Night Stalkers" event. We will learn about these mysterious flying mammals, and see and hear live bats flitting about outside using special equipment. For ages 10 and up.* Please note that you must register with the Trailside Museum by August 1 by calling 708-366-6530 to reserve a spot in their free event. Click here for complete details on their event.

Please register here on our CGCC site ALSO  so we know to look out for you!

*If you have an 8 or 9 year old, come to our other Meet & Greet on August 12.

What is Curiosity Hacked?

Curiosity Hacked is a group for girls and boys ages 8-12 who are interested in building stuff and designing and who enjoy science. Volunteer leader, Elaine Luther, and additional parents, provide programming in the form of design-build challenges and other activities.  We hope to form partnerships this year with outside experts who will provide some of the programming.

Meetings are held once or twice a month on Saturday afternoons, 3 pm to 5 pm, generally in the Oak Park area, though there will be a few field trips further afield.

For the 2017-2018 academic year, the focus will be on environmental science, specifically learning about specific insects or animals in our area and in some cases building a supportive habitat for them, such as a bat house or a solitary bee house.  We may also participate in some citizen science while learning about urban wildlife.

Registration for Curiosity Hacked for the 2017-2018 academic year will take place at the end of the summer.
