Picture this: A study in Picasso’s paint

When art experts study the works of master painters, they scrutinize everything from composition and content to the brushstrokes and materials the artist used to convey a message about the subject, time, and society in which the work was created. But when scientists peered into a painting by Pablo Picasso, their examination went many steps further—all the way down to the nanoscale. What did they find?
