American Indian Center 63rd Annual Powwow

The American Indian Center of Chicago brings its 63rd Annual Powwow to Busse Woods from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18.


The event draws Native Americans from across the Midwest and Canada. It features traditional American Indian dance competitions, drum circles and vendors selling crafts and food. A highlight of the event is the Grand Entry at noon and 5 p.m. Saturday and at noon Sunday.


During the Grand Entry, tribes and other groups will process into the powwow wearing traditional dress and carrying standards. Tribal leaders from the Hochunk, Menoninee, Oneida, Sac, Fox and Cheyenne tribes are expected. Drum groups are also expected from Wisconsin and Michigan.

The powwow will take place in Busse Woods’ grove 23 off Higgins Road. Shuttle buses will depart regularly from nearby Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg.
