Social Media and Your Teenagers: Where Does Their Time Go?

A Demonstration of Apps for Parents 


Learn about many of the popular social media tools that teenagers are using. See a demonstration of apps and the ways teenagers are using their mobile devices for communication and social connection. Some topics include Instagram, Facebook,Twitter, Snapchat, Whatsapp, Vine, Periscope, and more. Gain an understanding of the world of social media so that you can have conversations with your teens. 


Lisa Berghoff is a leader in educational technology. She is currently the Director of Instructional Technology at Highland Park High School. In addition, she is a presenter, blogger, and Google Certified Trainer. 


Joe Taylor is both Director of Instructional Technology and Assistant Principal for STEAM Instruction at Deerfield High School. Joe has been a leader in student-centered teaching, and the 1:1 classroom for the last dozen years. He is a CoSN Certified Educational Technology Leader, Google Certified Trainer, as well as a presenter and blogger on ed tech and digital citizenship. 


Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop or mobile device.

Our First Friday Speaker Series provides a forum for experts and members of the community to meet and informally discuss topics of interest. The James Tyree Center provides outreach programming on adolescent development, educational practices, and learning differences.
