A child with emotional overexcitability can experience higher highs and lower lows than others, in fact she may appear overly dramatic and attention seeking. She may have strong compassion, empathy and concern for her companions and may feel the emotions of others as though they were her own. Tragedies, injustices and reminders of mortality can cause unexpected emotional outbursts.  This will be a discussion about emotional overexcitabilities with some straight talk strategies on how to support and encourage gifted children who are "overly emotional."

Catherine Gruener holds a Master’s degree in neuropsychology and a second Master’s degree in professional counseling from the Adler School of Professional Psychology.  She is a licensed and nationally certified counselor, certified to teach Positive Discipline to parents and educators with training in counseling gifted children through the Illinois Association of Gifted Children and Parent Management techniques through the Yale University Parenting Center.
