This year, the mummytastic fun of this annual family Halloween party cannot be contained within the museum walls. Make the Oriental Institute’s Mummies Night part of your trick-or-treating plans or take advantage of the whole free event on October 31st, from 5 to 8pm.
Outdoors (moved indoors in event of inclement weather) DJ Orlando will be spinning the Halloween favorites, facilitating mummy-themed games, and handing out prizes to the participants.
Mummify our simulated mummy, take a mummy tour, or read a mummy-tale. Make an ancient-inspired paper fortune teller, a crafty cat mummy, and create some Egyptian bling to add to your costume. Catch a family photo at the Great Pyramids and with life-sized camel standees at our Photo Op stations. Play the game many a mummy has taken to his own tomb – Senet.
And as always, in the galleries, King Tut’s monumental 17-foot-tall statue and our 40-ton Assyrian winged bull will lend a photogenic background for Supergirl, Olaf, or whatever your costume choice.
Scouts and other interested youth can get their OI mummy fun patch for attending this event. Patches available onsite. Recommended for children ages 4 and up, accompanied by an adult. Registration recommended.
DJ hosted games at 5:45pm, 6:45, & 7:45. Mummy simulations at 5, 6, & 7pm. Mummy tours and storytime at 5:30, 6:30, & 7:30pm. Times subject to change.
This event is sponsored by the University of Chicago Office for Civic Engagement, Mamma Chia, and the Junior League of Chicago.
