Roundtable Discussion led by

Kimberlee King and Ian King

Psychomotor Overexcitabilities: Is it an OE or is it AD/HD? Does it matter?

CGCC Parenting Gifted Seminar

meeting space is hosted by
Vine Academy
125 South Vine
Hinsdale, IL 60521

Gifted children often struggle with attention.  Task initiation, transitions, hyper-focus, boredom, tuning out, perfectionism and anxiety, all can plague gifted children.  Is this AD/HD, though?   Kimberlee and Ian King will explain what AD/HD is and is not, especially in the context of giftedness.  They will also discuss the difference between a gifted person with AD/HD and a gifted person who may look like they have AD/HD but does not.  Regardless of the diagnosis, there are strategies that can help.  Kimberlee and Ian will also bring light to the amazing gifts that come along with AD/HD and explain how to leverage those strengths.

Kimberlee King is a parent/life coach and educational consultant for families of gifted and twice-exceptional students. She is a lecturer on the needs and development of the gifted and learning disabled and/or emotionally challenged, commonly referred to as twice-exceptional. King is also a CTI trained life coach. She has served on the board of trustees of an independent school for gifted children. King’s specific area of concern is how the brain learns and processes information especially as it relates to diverse learners (AD/HD, dyslexia, giftedness, slow processing, learning disabilities, perfectionism and anxiety to name a few). This knowledge, coupled with her own experience with dyslexia, epilepsy and numerous medical challenges, has landed King in the unique position of being able to empathize deeply with families struggling to help their very bright child thrive in a world that was not designed with their processing styles in mind. King is the mother of four children who also are each uniquely gifted and challenged.

Ian King, founder and president of Inspired Attention, is a coach, consultant, speaker, and workshop facilitator. He is well known as a premiere AD/HD coach for adults and teens.  Many of Ian's clients are highly gifted individuals who are working to master the impacts of AD/HD on their lives.  Ian has served as the president of the ADHD Coaches Organization and the Chicago Chapter of the International Coach Federation.  Ian is also a gifted person living with AD/HD and the father of three children.
