USO Annual Halloween Concert: CLASSIFIED

  • October 25, 2014
  • Mandel Hall, The University of Chicago

Each year USO Director Barbara Schubert brings together the University Symphony Orchestra and Hyde Park School of Dance for a haunted but harmonious concert to celebrate Halloween. Enhanced by costumes, storytelling, and special effects – including a distinctive, thematic entrance by the costumed conductor – this family-friendly concert includes great orchestral masterpieces, unusual treasures of the repertoire, and even an occasional pops medley! Themes of recent Halloween concerts include “Dangerous Women,” “Cosmic Adventures,” “1001 Arabian Nights,” and “Witches of Yore," among others. This family-friendly event’s two performances always fill up, so plan on showing up early—and in costume!

No mission is impossible. Use your sleuthing skills to help orchestra detectives discover haunting clues at this “CLASSIFIED” USO concert conducted by special agent Schubert, Barbara Schubert. Featuring music from spy thriller films James Bond, Mission Impossible, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and more, along with Edward Elgar’s masterful Enigma Variations.

Orchestra costumes, storytelling, special effects, and original choreography by dancers from the Hyde Park School of Dance add to the fun. Audience members are encouraged to come in costume as well.

Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Suggested donations at the door: general $8, students and children $4.

Two shows:

7:00 - 8:30

9:00 - 10:30
