Family Days

This fall, drop by the Smart and make some art! Our free Family Day programs feature hands-on activities designed to inspire children to think about and respond creatively to art.

Blob Monsters

Saturday, September 6, 1–4 pm
Using clay and papier mâché, sculpt bloopy goopy blobs inspired by Robert Hunt's sculpture Why, located in the Smart's sculpture garden.

Drawing in Space

Saturday, October 11, 1–4 pm
Make 2D into 3D using wire lines that expand into three dimensions, draw sculptures with light, and play JumpDraw inGalleryX
Please note that this Family Day is on the second and not the usual first Saturday of the month.

Blockheads

Saturday, November 1, 1–4 pm
The building blocks of sculpture are often literally blocks of wood, stone, or plaster. We’ll make helmets that look like buildings in the Chicago skyline, play Jenga, and build blocky action figures and dolls.

Guardian Figures

Saturday, December 6, 1–4 pm
Ward off monsters, ghosts, and pesky brothers and sisters by making a guardian figure. The fearsome folks you'll create can protect you and your bedroom from all bad things that might try to sneak in!

Family programs at the Smart are free and open to all. Art-making supplies and other materials are provided. Family programs are best for kids 4–12. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Family programs are supported by the Harper Court Arts Council.
