The Lake County Discovery Museum is proud to present the 23rd annual Civil War Days encampment in 2014. The event features infantry, cavalry and artillery reenactors, as well as musicians, sutlers, medical personnel and civilians. Ongoing drills, kids' activities, and Civil War era shopping are available both days.
The boom of cannons, the crack of rifle shots, and the galloping of horse hooves will welcome you to the 23rd annual Civil War Days encampment at Lakewood Forest Preserve.
- See large scale battle reenactments Saturday and Sunday.
- Meet President & Mrs. Lincoln, Civil War era generals, Harriet Tubman & Sojourner Truth.
- Wander through civilian camps to see artisans and tradesmen at work.
- Experience a soldier's life with reenactments of pay day, weapon checks, drills and mail call.
- See drills and demonstrations by cavalry, infantry and artillery units.
- Enjoy period kids' crafts and games and go on a scavenger hunt.
- Explore public amusements and horticultural and domestic arts exhibitions at the 1863 Summer Fair.
- Shop Civil War era vendors.
Free admission to all active military personnel and military veterans. Please present your valid ID at the event entrance.
$10 adults, $5 youth (ages 4-17) and seniors per person per day. Children 3 and under are free.
Price includes parking and admission to the Lake County Discovery Museum.
