Have you ever wanted to play with variables? What even is a variable, anyway? And what about the coolest numbers on the block - negative numbers? Well you're about to find out, because Hands-on Equations teaches just that - and more!

Hands-on Equations is a powerful system for mastering pre-algebra: variables, negatives, negative variables, and more. Using manipulatives is a great way to make "x" intuitive rather than intimidating! In Hands-on Equations, we will work on both number problems and word problems, and create our own everyday algebra problems as well! For students who are already familiar with variables, we will jump right into the more complicated problems, as there are three sequential books which are part of this course. By the end of the session, students will be comfortable doing these problems completely on paper, although they will get to take the manipulatives home after the last class for further review and just to have fun with.

Hands-on Equations is a great way to get a jump-start on algebra. Whether you're into linear equations, simplifying, negative numbers, or just math in general, Hands-on Equations has something for you!

Minimum/maximum number of students: 4/8

Age range: 7+, but flexible if prerequisites are met

Price: $26

Class prerequisite: mastery of basic multiplication and division.

Teacher: Sarah Alexander

Sarah Alexander loves numbers, and playing with them. "X" is one of her favorite numbers, second only to "i."
