  • 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM
  • Argonne National Laboratory, Lemont

Registration

Argonne National Laboratory is having its annual open house on May 20 from 10 am to 4 pm. There will be activities and presentations related to science and technology with everything from climate change to particle physics around campus.

Dr. Tovesson, the Physics Division Director, has arranged a special tour of the Physics Division exclusively for CGCC at 1:30.  There will be a short introduction followed by a visit to various stations around the division, including science demonstrations and a tour of the control room of the ATLAS accelerator.

Physics Division at Argonne is home to the ATLAS particle accelerator, the world’s first superconducting linear accelerator. Every year hundreds of researchers from every corner of the world comes to ATLAS to conduct research that helps us understand how heavy elements are formed in the stars, develop safer radiation cancer therapies, and unlock the mysteries of the nuclei and nucleons.

Registrants for the CGCC tour must register on both Argonne's website and here to be included in the tour. Please be sure to register for the Open House on the Argonne website  ASAP as an entry time must be selected at registration. Please select a time that enables you to be present for the CGCC tour at 1:30.

Specific details on where to meet will be provided shortly before the date. Registration for the CGCC tour required by May 17, 2023. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
