William Byrd Presentation

  • October 27, 2022
  • 5:30 PM
  • Northwestern University, Evanston

Widely considered one of the greatest Renaissance composers, William Byrd (1539/40-1623) had a profound impact on composers in his native England as well as in continental Europe. Commemorating the 400th anniversary of his death, Bienen School ensembles, faculty, and special guests celebrate his legacy with the William Byrd Festival October 27-30.

Musician, musicologist, and author Kerry McCarthy discusses composer William Byrd and English singers of his time. McCarthy’s 2013 Byrd biography, published by Oxford University Press, received the 2014 ASCAP Nicolas Slonimsky Award for composer biography.
