"Fire of Love" Chicago Premiere Film Screening

Katia and Maurice Krafft loved two things — each other and volcanoes. Their legacy forever enriched our knowledge of the natural world. These French scientists devoted their lives to uncovering the mystery of volcanoes, chasing fire around the world and, in the process, capturing some of the most spectacular imagery of the earth ever recorded.

Illinois Science Council is hosting a FREE screening (registration required) of this highly acclaimed film that recently won the Jonathan Oppenheimer Editing Award at the Sundance Film Festival. Watching hot lava in a cool theater is the perfect summer night out!

National Geographic Docs presents this extraordinary story of volcanologists Katia and Maurice Krafft and their work. Director Sara Dosa and the filmmaking team fashion a lyrical celebration of the intrepid scientists’ spirit of adventure, drawing from the Kraffts’ spectacular archive. FIRE OF LOVE tells a story of primordial creation and destruction, following two bold explorers as they venture into the unknown, all for the sake of love.
