Taps on the Wall: Learning to Communicate

Why is communication important? What does it mean to communicate with others? How can people communicate when they aren’t able to talk to, or see, each other? During the Vietnam War, prisoners of war being held in separate cells used a special tap code to send messages to one another through the walls. This code allowed prisoners to tell stories, trade information, and even compose poetry!

Join the Pritzker Military Museum & Library and General John Borling on Saturday, June 11th from 1-2:30pm for this special PMML Family Program, where we will explore the PMML’s new exhibit, Life Behind the Wire: Prisoners of War, learn about Gen. Borling’s experiences as a POW during the Vietnam War, and practice writing and sending our very own messages using the POW tap code.

Recommended for children ages 7-11. Families with children of all ages are invited to attend and participate.
