Forest Glen Woods – Get to Know the North Branch Hiking Series

ALL HIKES IN THIS SERIES ARE FREE AND FAMILY FRIENDLY.

The second hike in our series is at Forest Glen Woods, just up the river from LaBagh. Forest Glen is another urban forest preserve and it has many similarities to LaBagh Woods. Most of the site has been altered by human activities that included cattle grazing, farming, logging, and quarrying in settlement times. But volunteers are working to recreate the habitats that were once found at Forest Glen.

On this hike we’ll explore the floodplains and river bluffs at Forest Glen. We’ll talk about how the natural resources in this preserve both harmed it and helped it to survive to this day. And we’ll visit the highest bridge on the North Branch, providing beautiful bird’s eye views from above the trees.
