Ever wonder if your children's teachers "get" your child? Ever wonder why your child is motivated in some areas but not others? CGCC's very own Rhonda Stern will explore with CGCC's audience her belief that the purpose of school (particularly relevant for gifted and talented students) is finding one's passion, even as early as kindergarten! As an example, in second grade Rhonda's daughter decided to be a writer, and has created a career arising from her love of writing! Put simply, boredom may not necessarily be problematic!

Rhonda Stern received her dissertation from DePaul University in 2019. Stern's research focused on "intrinsic motivation" in upper elementary schooling, with an emphasis on the late Mihalyi Csiksantmihalyi's flow theory (key words: flow, optimal experience, "in the groove or zone," and "play"). Stern observed two award winning, male teachers (fifth and fourth grade) and concluded that fueled by "intrinsic motivation," a student's flow-producing learning experiences in an elementary school classroom may have the potential to put students on the path of lifelong learning.

Stern graduated from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law in 1982, and has been a CGCC board member since 2016. Working with students gives her JOY! Feel free to submit a few questions ahead of time and Rhonda will do her best to answer them!

No refunds unless workshop is cancelled. Fee waivers are available. Please Contact us for details.
