Writing About the Climate: A Primer

A three week course to help students make some (literary) noise

Join Violeta Balan and Rhonda Stern as we seek to make some deafening (literary) noise about hazards to our planet!  Our class is designed to give students the opportunity to creatively represent their experiences and perspectives on climate change.  Topics covered in the three sessions are aimed to guide students as they prepare their submissions for publication in the CGCC 2022 Kids Climate Summit Making Noise magazine. Topics will cut across all genres and include:
  • how to craft a lead sentence that will engage readers and drive your piece;
  • why it is important to "write small" and narrow your topic; and
  • ways to enhance your writing by using symbolism and literary devices.

Students who participate in this class will have the opportunity to share some of their work with their peers--and give and receive feedback.

All ages are welcome.
