An Exploration of STEM Careers and Possibilities

STEM Wordle

Are your children trying to translate an interest in math or chemistry or something else into a STEM career or STEM opportunities? Join us for an exploration into STEM subjects and the fields they support. This session is geared to middle and high school students and their parents, though younger students are welcome to attend.

Dr. Michael Pravica is a professor in physics and a member of HiPSEC (High Pressure and Engineering Center) at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV). He received his Ph.D. in experimental condensed matter physics in 1998 from Harvard University. During his 20+ tenure at UNLV, Dr. Pravica has received several teaching and service awards. Dr. Pravica is currently working on the development of “useful hard x-ray photochemistry to synthesize high quality vaccines for viruses.” To become acquainted with Dr. Pravica’s wide array of publications and presentations on STEM related issues, please take a look at Dr. Pravica’s website: http://www.physics.unlv.edu/~pravica/. Dr. Pravica has also explored the contributions of eminent scientists, supervised soil research, supported a number of climate change initiatives, and has advanced opportunities related to interdisciplinary scholarship (the marriage of science and the humanities). Dr. Pravica’s connections to Illinois include collaboration with Argonne Labs and Keynote speaker at the 2020 Virtual Kids Climate Summit.
