Book Club Discussion
& Author Talk

You’re invited to join hosts Violeta Balan, a CGCC board member along with Katherine Peterson, a SENG Model Parent Group Facilitator, and board member in an online book club conversation created to support your journey as parents of gifted children.  

This week, we will continue discussing the topic of mindfulness, a practice for children but also self-care for adults. We are suggesting this book by a local teacher and renowned  author: Planting Seeds of Mindfulness: Creating the Conditions to Help Gifted Kids to Flourish and Bloom Intellectually, Emotionally, and Spiritually by Michele Kane & Dorothy A. Sisk. However, if you have read or prefer other mindfulness books, please feel free to revise those and share with us your thoughts on the topic.  Katherine has shared a mindfulness practice recording for us to consider using, if needed.  She has also authored this blog post on how we can do LESS and also this blog post about self-care.  

Prof. Kane, the author of the aforementioned book, a well-known local gifted advocate and a longtime CGCC's friend and mentor to our community, has kindly accepted the invitation to join us for this discussion. Please bring your burning questions and enjoy a lively discussion about self care and mindful practices. 

Log in details are sent in a confirmation email after you register, along with questions to frame your reading.  If your plans change after you register, please let us know prior to the meeting by replying to the confirmation email.  Next meeting  will occur in two weeks on February 25, 2021 and we will continue discussing the topic of mindfulness with an emphasis on self-care.  Next month, we plan to focus on self-compassion - a topic that arose during our last meeting and garnered a lot of interest and great discussion.
