Join us for music and stories about the sea, underwater worlds, and adventurous spirits!

This all-ages story time will focus on food chains rather than whale hunting, with stories from Moby Dick, an Ocean Primer, by Jennifer Adams; McElligot’s Pool, by Dr. Suess; Julián is a Mermaid, by Jessica Love; and Whale in a Fishbowl, by Troy Howell and Richard Jones.

An instrument petting zoo of stringed instruments will be offered by William Harris Lee & Co. following the story time. We invite you to visit our Herman Melville exhibition in our new Trienens Galleries before or after the program.

Led by the Lucky Trikes storytelling chamber band, including Deirdre Harrison and Kyle Price, joined by musicians from Chicago’s thriving new music scene.

This event is part of our programming in connection with the exhibition Melville: Finding America at Sea, sponsored by Elizabeth Amy Liebman and the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation. See it from January 18 through April 18, 2019, at the Newberry.

Our Second Saturdays series is supported by a grant from the Chicago Free for All Fund at the Chicago Community Trust.
