Bring in your mystery finds for our scientists to identify! Illinois residents, enjoy free admission.

Found a rock that looks suspiciously like a dinosaur fossil? Snapped a photo of a bright blue bird you don’t recognize? This is your chance to get a scientist’s take on it.

From geologists to botanists, our experts will examine your object and give their best identification. You might walk away with a certificate commemorating your find, or even a rare “I stumped a scientist!” sticker.

So, what can you bring? We’ll take a look at clean, dry bones, fossils, rocks, meteorites, seashells, feathers, and artifacts, as well as photographs of mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, and insects. Please leave anything that’s alive (or was recently) at home.

Even if you don’t have something to bring, our scientists will have specimens on display for you to see and touch and are ready to talk shop about your favorite science topics.
