Presentation and Roundtable Discussion led by Rhonda Stern

Too Imaginative?

    CGCC Parenting Gifted Seminar

    meeting space is hosted by

    Vine Academy
    125 South Vine
    Hinsdale, IL 60521

Does your child experience imaginational overexcitabilities? These could be expressed by
  • a rich imagination
  • a love of daydreaming
  • imaginary friends
  • design of complex games
  • delight in metaphor and poetry
  • and so much more...
Parents encounter profound challenges when their child's lived experience is grounded in imaginary beliefs. Some teachers feel that highly imaginative children do not take direction well and are disrespectful. There is a tension between valuing the child's creative ideation and managing family, school, peer, and community relationships. Yet Einstein once said  “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” Join us as we continue our analysis of Dabrowski's overexcitabilities with a discussion of imaginational issues.  We will discuss how these children experience the world and what we can do to support them more effectively.
